This large K-12 city school had limited space in the boiler room and no easy way to install a dry chip storage silo near it anyway. So it was decided to build a separate boiler building in an area near the school where it would be reasonably close to the boiler room and have easy access for refilling the silo.
A beautiful brick building was built to match the school’s facade. A Schmid 1.7 million BTU/hour biomass boiler was installed there with a large buffer tank and 40 ton dry chip silo. Two existing Buderus oil fired boilers were left in place to act as peaking and back-up roles with the Schmid as primary heat source.
